Lost Light #2

I don't know if I'm the only one still reading this, but it's still going along (though late this month).

I quite enjoyed this issue though I will admit certain characters are starting to grate (Rewind, Tailgate, I'm looking at you) while the new characters seem to have fallen into some kind of four-way sassy fembot stand-off, and the art is still a bit on the cartoony side. That said, there's some nice action against the Functionaries and the cliffhanger's promise of the next big reveal means I'm going to be aboard the Lost Light again next month, so I don't want to get too down on it - it's still by far the best Transformers comic in years (although I have been tempted by talk of Prime and Soundwave being allies over in the other one).

Even though it's essentially a filler issue - part two of three(? or more?) - there are some good juicy bits to get stuck into. The developing/ongoing relationship between Megatron and Terminus is definitely interesting and I liked that Drift and Ratchet finally start talking to each other. Lug and Anode are an interesting aside but I'm hoping they're just characters for this arc and that they're not going to take too much of the spotlight this season. Overall, it's certainly not the worst thing I could be reading though I'd prefer a bit of the old horror that typified earlier issues... maybe it's the art style but I just feel it's lost some of the downright nastiness that Roberts used to excel in. The eyeless Cybertronians I suppose are a nod to that and maybe we're building up towards something really awful, so I'm going to continue with it.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I didn't dislike issue 1, but I don't think it really had the same feel as MTMTE. Issue 2 was more my thing. Really interested to see what the Useless One does.

I'm getting really sick of all of the "made up" characters tbh. It's a big cast already.

I know it's not a great criticism but there are so many Transformers out there

The art is really killing this for me. Bring back one of those Milne copycats at least.

Tailgate needs to die. So that Cyclonus can be restored to his former glory.

Don't mind the intro of new characters so much, but agree with Hound, let most of them be established characters with new cast interspersed. I think Roberts does this so he has the green light to do whatever he wills with them. Less constraints.

Sure could use more Grimlock, Scavengers, Pharma, Star Saber. Still the best written TF title out there, but seeing the old school dot matrix printing on the Optimus Prime title, gonna have to get that.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
