Not because Anakin choked the life out of her. Not because childbirth knackered her. But because she didn't want to go on anymore. That's... well, weak is the word that springs to mind. And considering she'd just popped out two sprogs, a little selfish if you ask me. Would have been tidier if they-d c-sectioned her and she just never woke up, rather than dodgy dialogue that carries the inference that people can die simply by wanting to. Because she still cared enough to know exactly what she wanted her kids to be called as soon as they were put in front of her...

B'ah.
You know, that's starting to bug me too now that I'm thinking about it. I was semi-fine with the lost the will to live thing and, *gasp*, didn't think of the children! What kind of crap mother is that?

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Boba, I agree that slaughtering the sprogs was villainous, it's just his reasoning for it that I don't get.

Faith kept killing because Wilkins was the only person who she felt cared about her, so she pretty much just gave in to it. Anakin had Palpatine instead of the Mayor, but he also had Padme, and we know he hadn't given up completely on the Jedi because of his reaction to Windu's death.

Faith didn't have any other options about her path (that she was willing to deal with, at any rate), Anakin did. I understand to some extent, but it just feels artificial.
Jetfire wrote:Prehaps but in the context of VAders character it works. We've know since the Empire Strikes back tthat a 20 years on Vader is, deep down, still motivated by good intentions but under the belief that only the through the darkside can he achieve these noble intentions.
Good point.

So, rather than charting Anakin's turn to evil, Episode III actually illustrates his motivations and state of mind. Meaning that his "redemptive" actions in the later movies are actually him dropping the facade, rather than a full about-face.

Aye?

Still prefer the arc in Buffy, tho. Or are you still on your "Smallville is better" kick? You fffffffffreak.

Understandable, but I view it in tandem with the influence of the Dark Side: He was already on the way there and after the death of Windu, he just let it consume him to the point where his mind was completely screwed up. Because his mind was now screwed up, he can justify things that are simply insane and evil. Or something like that. With Faith, I see a bit closer of a parallel than you do, but I also think that, if she had to deal with the "Dark Side of the Force" she would have become a worse person at a quicker rate. I guess I'm just letting my notions about the power of the Force cloud my judgment to the point where I can say "These aren't the plot holes I'm looking for."

Nothing. A far less annoying central character is focused on in Smallville and I enjoy watching it more. That and Lional Luthor is a much better character than all of Buffy's villians.

Well, I just finished watching A New Hope over again, and it was almost like watching it for the first time, with all the backstory.

Obi Wan trying to get Luke to leave his home and become a Jedi.....Obi Wan talking about and eventually fighting Vader...it all had a lot more texture thanks to the prequels.

AND I know now why C3PO got mindwiped at the end of III.
It's because at the start of ANH, when Luke stumbles upon the holomessage in R2, R2's all "I gots to go to my Master, Obi Wan Kenobi," and C3PO's all like, "I have no idea what this cat's talking about, Luke. Our last master was General Antilles."

Been there, I'm gonna do part V today.

Are you watching the originals, the special editions or the DVD editions?

watched 3 again yesterday - enjoyed it a bit more this time, although i have to say that Palpy cackling his way through the third act is hilarious.

Think i will watch IV today.

Or tomorrow seeing as my flat mate is back today and the entire place is a tip...

your watch it from the comfort of a tip!! - yay.

I still like 3, I think its good. sometimes I just think that SW sets the bar so high the new films can never attain the same level.

They must be the most disected films made - in comparison to other sc-fi junk that gets released, say, chronicles of riddick - they are above and beyond.

I always found the Trek films to be more consistently enjoyable but that's just me. When SW got it right though it was lots of fun.

I can't think of many space-rocket style Scifi flicks now you mention it! :o

The conventional wisdom as far as Star Trek goes is that the even ones (Khan, Voyage Home, Undiscovered Country, The Borg One, and The Last One) are the stronger and the odds (Motion Picture, Search For Spock, The One With "God", Generations, and Insurrecction) suck.

Although I must say, I preferred III to IV.

But I DEFINETLY think the point about I-III (talking about SW now) being forced to match and/or meet the first three is a valid and important one.

I've never bought the even good odd bad thing with Trek. Like you said, I preferred Spock over Voyage Home too. I also quite like the Motion picture, despite it being about an hour too long.

I don't think its a case of us dissecting the films too much. I simply don't like it when parts of a beloved franchise are reduced to a joke.

Just watched V and its ******* classy stuff.

Added bits: Quite enjoyed the rejigged Emperor/Vader scene (Emperor looks exactly as he does in Sith, saggy neck and all), and I can just about live with Boba as a New Zealander.

The Han/Leia scenes sparkle. What a shame the new stuff is on a completely different page.

I'd take any LOTR film over new SW.

Talking of Trek, I'm a big fan of Parts 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10.

I thought Episode III was cool-admittedly I wasn't in the best state mentally and physically when I saw it, so hopefully when I see it again I'll enjoy it more.

I have to say though, I found the Emperor to be more like a pantomime villain this time around-that 'No! No! No!' bit during his fight with Mace had me wincing. Not to say that McDiarmid was all bad or anything, just that a lot of the time I personally found him more cartoonish than evil.

Love the way he seduces Anakin though:

Anakin: "So you're the evil bugger what's been doing the bad stuff then?"

Empy: "Yup. Don't tell on us-be yer best mate, promise."

Anakin: "But I'm conflicted-you've been so nice to me...but NO! I must dob you in."

Empy:"Erm...Dark Side! Powers! Save your wife-teach you how, I will!"

Anakin: "How? How do I save my beloved Padme? She's not irritating, like what sand is..."

Empy: "Well, not choking the **** out of her would be a good start..."

Anakin: "Beg pard?"

Empy: "Nowt son."

Anakin: "Anyway-NO! I'm a Jedi, and must uphold Jedi values. Despite you being a non-threatening and quite nice old chap, I shall not display my usual patented brand of extreme arrogance, even though I'm the most skilldest Jedi evah, and beat you into submission and frog march you to the Jedi Council. Nope-instead I shall leave, grass you up and hope you don't scarper in the mean time."

Empy: "Fair enough son. You drive safe. Want a Worthers Original before you go?"

Anakin: "Please. They're cool and creamy-unlike sand, which is hot and irritating."

Empy: "You run along then, my little orphan Annie-see you in a bit when you decide to betray everything you believe in based on the word of someone who's just admitted to being the single most evil and manipulative person in the galaxy."

Anakin: "Awesome. Laters!"

Piss-taking aside, I did enjoy it. I thought the final scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan was fantastic-genuinely got a little choked when watching it.

Looking forwards to seeing it again. :)
