Vegas Baby!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Vegas Baby!

Post by Optimus Prime Rib » Fri Dec 26, 2014 11:52 pm

Getting married May31/June 1st 2015 in Las Vegas. Sarah and I were talking about getting marries in Texas of 2016 and taking our honeymoon in Vegas. As it turns out, Magic The Gathering, Grand Prix, Las Vegas is in May of this year. Since we are both avid players (that's how we met), and all of our mutual friends will be there.
Long story short. You are all invited!

She is pretty much the exact opposite of my ex. Great with the kids. Supportive of my transformer addiction. Even an enabler when I want a MP figure lol.

You all have been such a great part of my life. You have been there since before my first marriage. When my.daughter died. When my marriage ended. And every kid I've had. I couldn't think of a better group of people to celebrate with.

Now for the shameless pandering:
We are crowdsourcing this endeavor. PLEASE don't feel obligated. I just promised I would reach out to get this party started.

Y'all are nothing short of amazing.

Hm, I've got cheap vacation flights available from my town to Vegas... I might see you there, if anyone wants to split a room?

For the room? Depends on what's cheapest. You thinking of getting a package deal?

The MTG Gran Prix is being held at the las Vegas convention center. The hotel hosting it is the Westgate. We will probably be flying in on Thursday and heading back on Wednesday. Let us know what's best for y'all and we will schedule the wedding accordingly. Just remember that friday-Sunday (if we are lucky enough to make the money rounds) we will be playing in a card tournament.

I gots to confer with the missus, and with Paul. I think I might be able to do it. Flights are realllly cheap. Now the only question is whether to go MP, third party or Generations for your present.

Sarah found an Iron Man themed ring set that she wants, however she didn't like the "you are my arc reactor" engraving on the inside. I asked her if I could get "Till All Are One" on mine.

She actually cried and said "only if you promise to use it at the end of every round you win like Rodimus"

Normally I'd say "Get on a ring on that quick!" but you've already taken care of that.

Congrats!

Is the wedding hotel the same spot as the Magic soiree?

The gran prix is at the las Vegas convention center, next door. The resort is setting up a block of rooms for.event rates that weekend.

The actual wedding is June 1st, after the event is over.

I am trying to rack up ways to get to Vegas without getting in trouble with David, especially given that we are going in October!

So, current sitch:

Papa Snarl is coming. Crafty Butcher may also come.

I will be in Vegas Wed 27th until Jun 2nd/3rd (depending on flights back and my view on how hungover i will be). (very). Have some other friends there 27th-31st but will work seeing them around you guys.

I intend to go somewhere else the weekend before through to the wednesday - where this is will depend on where i can get flights to with my airmiles - my aim is DC, Chicago or San Diego, first one is the prefererance as not been before.

Pops apparently knows a guy at the MDM Grand so will see if we can get a jazzy rate/room there i think. Room booking Pending Paul (Crafty)'s attendance.

so basically: THE BRITISH ARE COMING

Would love if Ben could make it as well.

Very excited about this.

DC is a great city to visit if you have never been, particularly if you enjoy museums, monuments and similar attractions. The National Air and Space Museum (Both the Dulles and National Mall locations) are well worth a visit. Seeing the Space Shuttle Discovery up close is pretty amazing.

The National Gallery of Art and the National Archives are also fantastic and are close to a bunch of metro stations. DC actually has a fairly robust metro system so it is pretty easy to get around.

Finally, there are a ton of pubs, restaurants and other eateries right near the National Mall, and the closer you are to the Capitol Building the more likely it is you'll run into some politician. This may be a positive or a negative.

On the flip side, San Diego is warm, beautiful and, well, it's California.
THE BRITISH ARE COMING
Don't burn down the White House this time.

You got room in your highfalutin British digs for a dirty A-Merkin?

Oh, and don't remember if I told, but I could probably find you a berth in Chicago for a night or two. Many of my old friends have drifted that way in recent years.

Or document it for posterity (and Transfans).

You know what they say: what happens in Vegas belongs on a Transformers discussion board.

Also, don't forget Dan Savage's advice:
[composite word including 'f*ck'] first. Trust me: At the end of your wedding day—after the wedding, after the reception—you'll be too physically and emotionally drained to [composite word including 'f*ck'] each other. If you don't [composite word including 'f*ck'] first, i.e., before the ceremony, you might not [composite word including 'f*ck'] at all on your wedding day, and then you'll have to worry about What It Means that you didn't [composite word including 'f*ck'] on your wedding day. Or, worse yet, you'll force yourselves to [composite word including 'f*ck'] on your wedding night, despite your exhaustion and all the food in your stomach, and the sex will be rote, hurried, and passionless. There will be plenty of time for passionless *******—going-through-the-motions ****s, let's-get-this-over-with ****s—after you have kids or you're sick of each other, whichever comes first. [composite word including 'f*ck'] first and you can fall into bed together without any pressure or expectations—and if you have the energy to [composite word including 'f*ck'] again, well, that's great. You get a nice little bonus [composite word including 'f*ck'].

So has anyone booked flights/hotels etc yet?

I'm torn how long to book for. I'm not sure I could emotionally (or physically) handle a whole week in Vegas. I don't want to faint outside McDonalds again.
