A Song of Ice and Fire Books Spoileriffic Thread

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Except for the part where she forgot why that order was curtailed in the first place. Cersei is the master of solving the immediate crisis, regardless of whether it causes a catastrophe 5 minutes later.

It does make her awfully compelling as a character though. You can see the disastrous consequences of her decisions coming, but at the same time you can understand the logic (twisted as it is) of how she reaches her conclusions even though it is usually completely and utterly irredeemable.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the peasants and common citizenry finally have enough and just kick out all the nobles. The High Septon is halfway there already.

By her standards, it seems like a victory. What does she care if an order of military monks creates more problems for the kingdom? She's wiped out part of the infamous crown debt. It's just thinking in Cersei terms.

I've just finished the reread, which got interrupted because holy god reading books 4&5 at once is just too much with so much going on.

Anyway. Pretty sure that Martin was trying to recapture the magic of the Red Wedding with the Night's Watch's treason at the end there. Yay? Sad that Wun Wun was part of the collateral damage. Poor Wun Wun. Plain to see that until he decided to march for Winterfell, Jon had made the right long-term decisions for the Watch: turn the wildlings into allies, and fortify the Wall by any means possible. It's clear that his fellow Watchmen couldn't get past the wildlings' presence... at the same time, ******* stupid move for him to go running after Arya. Who isn't even Arya!

I'm trying to find all the Winds of Winter samples available online now...

Hm. So in the last episode of Season 4, we have, potentially, these cliffhangers:

- Tyrion kills Tywin and Shae
- Stannis sweeps in to the wildings' camp
- Lady Creepy-Ass Stoneheart

and possibly even:

- Drogon eats a kid

I don't see any way, unless George can get the book out in a year and a half, that Season 6 won't go into unexplored territory. As it is, it's looking like Sansa's story is flying off in a different direction anyway.

We've also got the death of The Hound to fit in. Though with Rorge already dead, we're clearly off-book with that.

Was hoping that they'd shuffle some stuff around a bit and maybe introduce Oldtown and the return of Jaqen before this season's up ("hey it's the new face of that guy from the season before last" > "er... who's he again?"), but deciding to spend an entire episode with people firing arrows at each other on the wall probably doesn't leave us quite enough time for shizzle like that.

Also a bit disappointed we haven't had Arya's wolf-dreams. Was quite looking forward to Nymeria fishing her mother's body out of the river.

My prediction is that book 6 will sneak out before season 6, but no way in hell will book 7 be out before season 7

and then they will differ and people will get irritated. but hey ho that is pretty much a given

George, if you are reading this, I will be your ghost writer.

But will it be Marvel's Transformers the Movie Official Comic Adaptation different, or Activision's Ghostbusters video game different, or just Donald F. Glut's The Empire Strikes Back novelisation different?

As long as it's not as disappointing as Bob Budiansky's grand return to "writing" Transformers by re-adapting a 20-year-old script.

I am really enjoying the Manderly' s slow route to revenge.

Wyman Manderly has come out of nowhere to be Ozymandias. He has his grand plan and by the time the Boltons figure out what is going on it is gonna be way too late.

Old Man Frey's a prime candidate for death by sexually transmitted disease or just being stabbed to death by whoever his latest jailbait wife is.

Or his entire brood of female descendants.

This series constantly surprises me with its hidden depth. I've read the books a few times now and never clocked that!

Where is Winds of Winter??..

In a few months, we are looking at some major departures, and some jumping ahead, unless George magically gets Winds of Winter together for 2015: http://www.ibtimes.com/game-thrones-sea ... ge-1712444

Changes in a nutshell:

- Jaime will go to Dorne instead of straightening stuff out in the Riverlands.
- Tyrion will get to Danaerys by the end of the season at most

In addition, we've got the big question of Lady Stoneheart and Brienne, and not really enough Dany story to fill the whole season.

Pretty sure Stoneheart has been cut from the show.

I think they have left it too long to reintroduce her now. Maybe if last season had hints of Freys being hung and the BWB, but nothing.

In some ways I don't mind the show going off in it's own direction, as it wont spoil the books. But the show creators know GRRM's ending, so the ending will be the same even if the journey isn't

Yeah, fairly sure I read someone connected to the production saying that Stoneheart's been nixed.

I dont mind Stoneheart being excised. Narratively she exists as a way for the reader to get some vengeance on the Freys, but otherwise is fairly irrelevent to the overall plot.
